My Story

My name is Daniel Blackwell. I’m a licensed home inspector in the state of Ohio. I am also a general contractor, specializing in interior renovations. I primarily buy and renovate distressed properties, what most people know as “flipping”. That word has a stigma attached to it, so I’m not very keen on using it to describe what I do. What I do involves buying houses that are otherwise unlivable, usually ones that have been sitting because nobody wants them. I then move all my tools into the house, bring on a few of my trusted guys, and we get busy for a few months building someone else’s dream. I love how it feels to take something everyone else has written off, and work to make it useful again, although my back and knees don’t seem to feel the same way. My drive to become a home inspector was born out of necessity. I did not pursue this career field to try and get rich by doing as little work as possible, like some other home inspectors. I work as hard as I can every day, no matter what the pursuit. My experience doing full scale renovations gives me an edge that cannot be matched by someone who just does inspections alone. I know what problems matter, I know what repairs involve, and I know about the cost associated with those repairs. This is why I am confident that I am a better inspector than anyone else you’ve experienced. I know because I have experienced some substandard inspections myself. Seeing the poor quality of work from other inspectors is what drove me to become one myself. Their objective is to do as many inspections a day as they can conceivably get away with, using a copy paste system of blanket statements that is taught to them in their training. I reject this system. I will only do 1 inspection per day. That is because a real inspection requires effort, it requires determination to document the truth, and it requires a lot of attention to detail. That is something inherently part of who I am, and that’s why I will produce the most useful inspection report you’ve ever seen.
